Key commands
A key command is a key that does something: Space plays, ⌘T cuts. Nebula's keys are mostly Logic's. You can change any of them, and this manual always shows the keys you use now.
The Key Commands window
Choose Nebula DAW ▸ Key Commands… (⌥K). Every command is listed by menu, with its key: every item of every menu can have one, from Add Marker at Playhead to Strip Silence…. Type in the search field to find a command by name or by its key, and tick Assigned Only to see only the commands that have a key.
A key with Command or Control shows in the command's menu. A key without either works too, but its menu does not show it, so it never takes a letter from a text field.
The selected track's buttons
Logic's keys press the selected track's buttons, and every other selected track's with it:
- ⌃M: Mute Track
- ⌃S: Solo Track
- ⌃⇧S: Solo Exclusive, the selected track alone; press it again to let every solo go
- ⌃R: Record-Enable Track
- ⌃I: Input Monitor Track (an audio track's I)
They are your keys only: Claude never arms a track or turns on its input.
Presets
A preset is a whole set of keys to start from:
- Nebula: Nebula's own keys, mostly Logic's.
- Logic Pro: Logic's, for example C for the cycle, E and X for the editor and the mixer, Y and I for the Library and the Inspector, Control-B to bounce in place.
- Pro Tools: Pro Tools' editing keys, for example Tab to the next hit and B to cut.
Choosing a preset replaces the keys you changed. Your macros stay.
Give a command a key
- Click the command's key in the window. Nebula listens for a key.
- Press the key you want. Escape stops listening.
- If another command already has that key, Nebula asks before taking it from it.
Clear takes a command's key away. Reset gives it back the preset's key, and Reset All does that for every command. Export… keeps your keys in a file for another Mac, and Import… reads them back.
Macros
A macro is a list of key commands run one after another, with a name and a key of its own. Running it is one undo step, named after the macro. Make one in the right side of the Key Commands window. Claude can run your macros too, when you ask for one by name.
Windows of their own
The mixer, the Piano Roll (with its Event List), the audio editor and the Library can each leave the main window for a window of its own, for example on a second display. Click the window button at the right of the view's own bar, or choose it in the Window menu. The view leaves its place in the main window while it has its own.
Close the window, or click its button again, and the view goes back to its place. Each window opens where you last left it.
Screensets
A screenset is a layout kept under a number key, as in Logic: which panels are open, which views have windows of their own and where, and how far the arrangement is zoomed.
- Hold Shift and press a number (saveScreenset1 for the first) to keep the layout you have now.
- Press the number (screenset1) to bring it back.
Screensets are saved with the song, and they are never undo steps. To keep them from being changed by a slip of Shift, turn on Lock Screensets in Preferences ▸ General or in Window ▸ Screensets; the numbers still bring them back.
The same keys in every editor
The editing keys mean the same wherever you are: they act on what is chosen in the editor you used last — the arrangement, the piano roll or the clip launcher.
- ⌫ deletes it: regions, notes or a launcher clip.
- D duplicates it: a region after itself, notes after themselves, a launcher clip into the next empty cell below.
- ⌘X, ⌘C and ⌘V cut, copy and paste it.
- Double-click opens a thing in its editor: a region in the piano roll or the audio editor, a launcher clip beside the launcher, a modulator's settings on its card.
The command palette
⇧⌘P opens the command palette: type a few letters of anything Nebula can do and press Return to do it.
Quick Help
Help ▸ Quick Help (⇧/) opens a small window that explains whatever the pointer is over, with its key and a link to this manual. It stays open until you close it, and Nebula remembers it next time.
