Glossary

Nebula calls each thing by one name, everywhere: in its menus, buttons and Quick Help, in Edit ▸ Undo, in this manual and in what Claude says. Where two things could share a word, each gets a name of its own.

One word, one thing

  • A name is the same in a menu, on a button, in Undo and in help: Track ▸ Add Launcher Scene leaves Undo Add Launcher Scene.
  • Undo names a step "verb, then the thing": Add Launcher Scene, Set Modulator Rate, Edit Step Pattern, Convert Session Player to MIDI.
  • Inside a view that is only about one thing, its settings may drop the thing's name: the step sequencer's Length is the step pattern's length.

Patterns

  • Library Pattern: a part kept in the Library — a region with its track's instrument, effects and automation — saved with Track ▸ Save Region as Library Pattern… and placed from the Library.
  • Step Pattern: the steps of a step pattern region, edited in the step sequencer. A step pattern region is a region whose notes its step pattern writes.
  • A plug-in's own patterns keep the plug-in's name for them: the Arpeggiator's patterns, Nebula Drums' patterns.

Scenes

  • Launcher Scene: a row of the clip launcher. Launched, every clip in it starts together.
  • Mix Scene: a mix kept by name in the mixer's Mix Scenes menu, and put back by recalling it.

Notes

  • Song Notes and Track Notes: words you keep with the song and with each track, in the Inspector's Notes tab — lyrics, a to-do list, who played what.
  • Notes, on their own, are MIDI notes: what a region plays, edited in the piano roll.

Modulators

  • Modulator: a channel's own LFO, envelope follower, steps, note source or macro, in the inspector's Modulators section, moving that channel's controls (see Modulators).
  • MIDI Modulator: a MIDI effect in a MIDI FX slot that sends controller moves, pitch bend or aftertouch to the instrument.

Racks

  • FX Rack: an insert holding chains of plug-ins side by side, each handed all of the signal, a band, a side, the middle or the sides (see Racks).
  • Instrument Rack: a track's instrument slot holding layers, each an instrument with its own effects playing the keys and velocities of its zone.
  • A rack's macros are its own eight knobs over the plug-ins inside it; a channel's Smart Controls are the channel's.

Players and clips

  • Session Player: a bass, keys, strings pad, guitar or drummer that plays the chord track, in a session player region. It is always a Session Player, never just a player, in menus, Undo and help.
  • Launcher Clip: the clip in a cell of the clip launcher. It is opened, deleted, copied and renamed as a region is.
